Quantiferon TB Gold Plus Assay

Tuberculosis is a communicable disease caused by infection with M. tuberculosis complex organisms (M. tuberculosis, M. bovis, M. africanum, M. microti, M. canetti and M. caprae), which typically spreads to new hosts via airborne droplet nuclei from patients with pulmonary tuberculosis disease.

Solaris Diagnostics Laboratory offers Quantiferon TB Gold Plus (QTF-Plus) assay which uses specialized blood collection tubes, containing peptide antigens that simulate M. tuberculosis protein, which is used to collect whole blood. Incubation of the blood occurs in the tube for 16-24 hours, after which, plasma is harvested and tested for the presence of Interferon-gamma produced in response to the peptide antigens.

The American College Health Association (ACHA) recommends screening all incoming students for tuberculosis risk factors and testing students at risk with a TB blood test.

A single one tube blood test is:

  • Accurate – does not cross-react with the BCG vaccine
  • Convenient – single visit testing with an available single-tube blood draw
  • Cost-effective – covered by insurance, with reduced x-ray and follow-up costs

College students are facing a world full of uncertainty. Have you done everything you can to help ensure them a safe return? Are your admissions forms up to date?

Providers can be restricted from offering a TB blood test because of outdated-school forms that do not include an IGRA testing option. Help improve testing at your institution by adding IGRAs to your admission forms. You can find a template TB screening questionnaire in the ACHA’s recent 2021 guidelines. Support social distancing and reduce clinic traffic by adding QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus to your on-campus testing protocol.

Solaris Diagnostic Laboratory can provide the Quantiferon TB gold testing results 48 hours after the sample is received in the laboratory. To get started, visit our website at solarisdx.com or give us a call at (844) 550-0308.
